A number of 28 Policemen Killed By Political Thugs In One Month – NHRC

Chairman, Governing Board of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Anselem Odinkalu, on Friday, charged President Goodluck Jonathan and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, to stop their supporters from the killing of innocent Nigerians and policemen ahead of the general elections in the country.

According to Odinkalu, more than 28 policemen were killed by suspected political thugs in February alone.

He said this in Abuja when the Ekiti State government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state were at that NHRC to drop their response to the allegations by the Ekiti State chapter of the APC that Governor Ayo Fayose was sponsoring the killings of opposition members in the state. Odinkalu said that the commission would look into the petitions dispassionately.

NYSC Member kills himself because of his Girlfriend

The body of a 26-year-old National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, member, identified as Ernest, was, recovered on Wednesday from his one room apartment after he reportedly took a poisonous substance.

Reports indicated that the young man, who was in love with a fellow NYSC member, Chioma Okewuru, went berserk when the girl came back from her village over the weekend with a ring from a man she had promised to marry.

Ernest, who is from Edo State and a graduate of the University of Benin, was posted to Cross River State in October, where he met and fell in love with Chioma, and both were serving in Redemption Secondary School, Ofombogha 1 in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State.

Jonathan’s Visit To Lagos Is A Big Waste says Fashola

Ebonyi state Gov's Fate Hangs In The Balance As PDP Contemplates Expulsion Or Suspension

                                                            The Ebonyi State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, weekend declared that the party at the national level would soon take action against Governor Martin Elechi over his alleged anti-party activities in the state.


In a statement by the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Apostle Benjamin Obaji, the party explained that the decision to either suspend or expel the governor from the PDP was solely that of the national secretariat of the party as reports concerning his undue association with Labour Party had been submitted to the Abuja office of the party for necessary action.

Obaji accused Elechi of sponsoring LP’s programmes and candidates in the upcoming general elections, noting that it was improper for a sitting PDP governor to use the resources of the state to fund an opposition party against the platform that brought him to office in 2007.

Court Adjourns Fani-Kayode’s Money Laundering Trial

A Federal High Court in Lagos has further adjourned till February 24 and 25, 2015, the trial of a former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, who is facing money laundering charges.

Fani-Kayode’s trial was stalled on Monday owing to the absence in court of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s prosecutor, Mr. Festus Keyamo.

The trial judge, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, had adjourned till Monday for the ex-minister to open argument in his own defence against the charges of financial impropriety levelled against him.

Though the accused was in court and had proceeded into the dock upon calling the case, a counsel representing the EFCC, Mr. Somadina Okore, however stood up and pointed the attention of the court to a letter written by Keyamo asking the court for an adjournment.

Despite moves to improve his sliding campaign fortunes, President Goodluck Jonathan is battling to explain all he knows about a multi- billion dollar farm which a non – governmental organisation (NGO) says belongs to him in alleged violation of the 1999 Constitution.

But a pro-Jonathan group, New Generation Coalition says the constitution allows a public officer to engage in farming. It also alleged that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo also benefited from Abuja-Land -For-Farms grab while in office to engage in farming.
